Flooded house surrounded by trees
Heavy rains and water from upstream India have submerged homes in a village in Jhenaigati upazila, Sherpur district, Bangladesh on October 5, 2024. Despite the deluge, this house remains intact, shielded by the surrounding trees. The presence of trees plays a vital role in reducing flood damage by stabilizing the soil, acting as natural barriers that slow down the water flow, and protecting homes from being washed away.
